Architect Terms of Use

This applies to architects joining Archive Design during our early access period. These terms may be updated as the platform develops ahead of general public launch, and we'll notify you of material changes.

Archive Design is a matchmaking platform connecting homeowners planning residential projects with architects who are the right fit for their project, location, budget, and design approach. These terms explain how we handle your work, your data, and your relationship with the platform as an early access architect.

1. Your Content Stays Yours

You own all copyright and intellectual property rights in the drawings, designs, portfolio images, and other content you upload to Archive Design ("Your Content"). Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of Your Content to Archive Design or to any homeowner. You're sharing it with us to be found and matched, not giving it away.

2. What We're Allowed to Do With It

By uploading Your Content, you give Archive Design permission to:

  • display the public portfolio content you choose to share, so homeowners can find and evaluate you;
  • share project-specific content (briefs, drawings, quotes, or other material) only with the specific homeowner you've been matched with, for that match;
  • store and process Your Content, using Google Cloud Storage, to run the service (backups, security, technical support).

This permission ends when you delete the content or close your account.

3. Confidentiality: Who Actually Sees Your Work

Project-specific content (briefs, drawings, budgets, communications) is only accessible to:

  • you and the homeowner you're matched with;
  • Archive Design's internal team, only where needed for support, moderation, or as required by law. We don't use outside contractors or third-party vendors to access your content;
  • no other architect, no other homeowner, and no external third party (advertising, analytics resale, etc.) without your separate, explicit consent.

Homeowners get the same confidentiality commitment for their project briefs. This protection runs both ways.

4. How Your Content Is Stored

Your Content is stored on Google Cloud Storage, with access limited to authenticated Archive Design staff on a need-to-know basis.

5. We Don't Sell Your Work

Archive Design will never sell, sublicense, or share Your Content with external third parties (advertising networks, data brokers, or unrelated commercial partners) unless you separately opt in or we're legally required to.

6. Eligibility to Provide Design Services

To join Archive Design as an architect, you confirm that you're legally entitled to provide architectural or design services in the Australian state or territory where you practice. If you're a registered architect, that means your registration is current, and you hold professional indemnity insurance where your state requires it. If you're a building designer or drafter and registration or PI insurance isn't a legal requirement for the services you offer, you confirm you're operating lawfully and are appropriately covered for the work you do. This isn't meant to exclude you, just to confirm everyone on the platform is who they say they are.

Archive Design is currently built for architects and designers operating in Australia. We can't currently make any representation about legal compliance, registration equivalence, or risk for anyone signing up from outside Australia, and early access is intended for Australian practitioners.

7. No Misleading Claims

Any claims you make on your profile or in your portfolio, about awards, experience, qualifications, or registration, need to be accurate. Homeowners are making real decisions, sometimes $500K+ ones, based on what you tell them here.

8. No Guarantee of Work

Archive Design doesn't guarantee you any particular volume of leads, matches, or work, and we don't guarantee that a homeowner who's introduced to you will go on to proceed with a project. You're free to accept or decline any lead or introduction. You're never obligated to take on a project just because you were matched.

9. Limitation of Liability

You're responsible for your own conduct, advice, and work as an architect or designer. Archive Design facilitates the introduction between you and a homeowner, but we're not responsible or liable for a homeowner's experience with you, including any dispute, error, or wrongdoing arising from the architectural or design services you actually provide.

10. What's Coming Next

We're building toward a longer-term vision for Archive Design, including letting homeowners license existing designs and use AI to help personalise them for their site, with you staying involved throughout. None of that is live yet. When it is, we'll ask you to agree to specific terms covering it (including anything to do with how your designs are used, licensed, or involved in training our own tools) clearly and separately, not folded into these early access terms. For now, this is about discovery and matching: getting the right homeowners in front of the right architects.

11. Leaving the Platform

You can close your account at any time. Your private project content is deleted immediately. Public portfolio content may be kept briefly if you have an active conversation with a homeowner in progress, then removed.

12. What You're Confirming When You Upload

When you upload content, you're confirming that you own it or have the right to share it (including any photography, which may belong to a photographer rather than you) and that doing so doesn't breach anyone else's rights, including a past client's confidentiality or a collaborator's moral rights, or any confidentiality obligation you already have, such as an NDA with a former client.

This is an early access platform, and we'd genuinely rather you ask than assume. If anything here is unclear, reach out to us directly and we'll answer plainly, the same way we've tried to write this.
